If your Rocketspark Dashboard says Analytics not connected but you've already added your Google Analytics code, your tracking is most likely working fine. The message is about the analytics graph on your Dashboard, not about whether Google is collecting your website stats. This guide explains the difference and how to get your graph showing again.
Tracking code vs. dashboard graph: two separate connections
Rocketspark links to Google Analytics (GA4) in two places:
| Connection | Where you set it up | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Tracking code (Measurement ID starting with G-) | Dashboard > Get Found (SEO) | Sends your visitor data to Google Analytics |
| Dashboard graph | The Connect Google Analytics button on your Dashboard | Pulls your stats back into Rocketspark so you can see them without logging in to Google |
The "not connected" message only means the second one, the graph, isn't linked. Your tracking code can be working perfectly and you'll still see the message.
If you've never connected the graph
- Log in to your Rocketspark Dashboard.
- Click Connect Google Analytics (you may need to scroll down).
- Choose the Google account you used to set up Google Analytics. If it isn't listed, click Use another account.
- Tick all the permission boxes, then click Allow.
- If that Google account has more than one Analytics property, pick the one for this website.
For the full walkthrough, see How to connect an existing Google Analytics account and display a graph through your website dashboard.
If your graph was working and then stopped
The connection between Rocketspark and Google can drop over time. This usually happens when:
- the Google account's password was changed
- the person who connected it lost access to the Analytics property
- access to the site was removed in Google
- the connection wasn't used for a long time and expired
Your tracking keeps collecting data while this happens. Rocketspark just can't pull the stats through anymore. To fix it, disconnect and reconnect:
- On your Dashboard, click the settings icon (two lines) to the right of the All Pages dropdown above your graph.
- Click Disconnect Google Analytics.
- Click Connect Google Analytics and follow the steps above. Make sure you sign in with a Google account that still has access to the Analytics property.
Tips and things to watch out for
- Sign in with the Google account that owns or has access to the Analytics property. Signing in with a different Gmail is the most common reason reconnecting fails.
- If you skip a permission tick box, Google shows an error. Click Try Again and tick every box.
- After connecting a brand-new Analytics account, it can take 24–48 hours for data to appear in the graph.
- If your code in Get Found starts with GTM-, you're using Google Tag Manager. See Both Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics connected to your Rocketspark website first.
Frequently asked questions
Is my website still tracking visitors if it says not connected? Most likely, yes. If your G- code is in Get Found (SEO), Google is still collecting data. You can check by logging in to Google Analytics directly.
I've entered my code. Why do I have to connect again? The code sends data to Google. The dashboard connection gives Rocketspark permission to read that data back, so it needs its own sign-in.
Can Rocketspark support reconnect it for me? We can't, because it needs you to sign in to your Google account and approve access. We can check that your tracking code is on your site.
I manage lots of client sites. Do I need to connect each one? Yes, each website has its own dashboard graph. Log in to each site's Dashboard and connect it with the Google account that has access to that site's property. Partners can track progress with the Analytics connected widget.
