If you’d like your website in multiple languages, here are two main paths you can take — a full second site, or a translation widget. Choose whichever fits your needs best.
Option A: Create a full second-language version of your website
Use this if you want full control over translated content, separate pages, SEO in that language, etc.
-
Duplicate your content
-
Start a new Rocketspark website trial. Alternatively, contact us and we can help duplicate your site’s content (text content) into the second-language version. Note: design, blog posts, and shop items may not automatically copy—these often need separate setup.
-
-
Translate all the text
-
Go through and translate every page, menu, section, etc. This ensures consistency in both languages.
-
-
Set up a subdomain
-
Example: fr.yourdomain.com or es.yourdomain.com
-
Configure this in your domain provider’s DNS settings or in the Domains section of Rocketspark if your domain is hosted with us. Here's how to do this.
-
-
Add the subdomain to Rocketspark
-
Add it as a Self-Managed domain (this means you manage DNS outside or via your provider; you’re not transferring full domain hosting to Rocketspark).
-
-
Link the two sites together
-
On your original-language site, add a menu item that links to the translated version (subdomain).
-
On the translated site, optionally link back to the original.
-
-
Review subscription/pricing
-
Upgrading the second-language version may cost. If you contact us before upgrading, we may offer a discount for the additional site.
-
Option B: Use a translation widget (for one website)
If you prefer not to manage two full sites, a translation widget is simpler and faster. Great for showing content in another language without creating completely separate pages.
-
Choose a widget service (e.g. Elfsight Translator).
-
Create or log in to the widget’s platform and configure settings: which languages, layout (dropdown, buttons), look & feel, etc.
-
Obtain the widget embed code.
-
In your Rocketspark Dashboard, open the page(s) where you want the widget, add a Code Block, paste the widget code.
-
Publish and test. Visitors will be able to toggle translations via the widget (though translation quality depends on the service).
FAQs
Q: What parts of my original site won’t automatically duplicate into the second-language site?
A: Generally, text content (pages, stacks) can be duplicated, but design settings, blog posts, and shop items might not copy over automatically. You’ll likely need to re-create or configure those manually on the second site.
Q: Do I need to pay twice if I run two language sites?
A: Yes, running a separate site for another language usually means a second subscription for that site. However, Rocketspark may offer a discount if you contact support before upgrading the second site.
Q: Will both sites count separately for SEO / Google etc?
A: Yes. With separate sites on subdomains, each version can be indexed separately by search engines, which is good if you want the translated language to rank. But make sure you set everything up cleanly (correct URLs, linking, sitemaps) for best results.
Q: What are pros & cons of a full second site vs translation widget?
A:
-
Full second-site gives you more control: full content in the new language, better for SEO, looks more professional. But it involves more work (translations, separate setup, managing duplicates).
-
Translation widget is faster, cheaper, easier. But translation quality depends on the widget, SEO impact is limited, and users may find it less clean (automatic translations can be imperfect).
Q: Can I use a different domain (not a subdomain) for the second-language version?
A: Yes — you can use a completely different domain (e.g. yourdomain.fr) provided you manage DNS correctly and link between them. But using a subdomain is often simpler.
Q: How do I keep both language sites in sync if I change content?
A: It’s not automatic. If you update a page, remove or add content on the original site, you’ll need to replicate those updates on the second-language site manually. It helps to maintain a content checklist or schedule so both stay up to date.
