If Google keeps opening your personal Gmail when you want your business account, or you can't find your Google Analytics or Search Console property, you're probably signed in to the wrong Google account. This often happens when you have more than one Google account, like a Google Workspace email and a personal @gmail.com address. This guide shows you how to check which account you're using, switch to the right one, and stop it happening again.
Why Google picks the wrong account
When you're signed in to more than one Google account in the same browser, Google treats one of them as your default. That's usually the first account you signed in to. Links you click, like a shared Google Doc, a calendar invite or a Google Analytics sign-up, often open in that default account rather than the one you meant.
It can also happen if you set something up, like Google Analytics, while signed in to your personal account. It then lives in that account, not your business one.
How to switch to the right Google account
Step 1: Check which account you're using
Look at the profile picture or initial in the top right of any Google page, like Gmail or Google Analytics. Click it to see the email address you're signed in with.
Step 2: Switch accounts
In the same menu, choose the account you want from the list. If it's not there, click Add account and sign in with it.
Step 3: If it still opens the wrong account, sign out of all accounts
This resets your default account.
- Click your profile picture in the top right.
- Click Sign out of all accounts.
- Sign in with the account you use most for work first, for example your Google Workspace email. It becomes your default.
- Add your other accounts afterwards, if you need them.
Can't find your Google Analytics or Search Console?
If you switch accounts and your Google Analytics property or Search Console website still isn't there, it was probably set up in your other Google account. Switch to that account and check. Once you find it, you can give your business account access too, so you don't need to switch every time:

If someone shares a Google Doc, Sheet or Drive folder and Google says you need access, check the top right to see which account you're in. Switch to the account the file was shared with, or ask the person to share it with the account you're using.
Stop it happening again
The most reliable fix is to give each Google account its own Chrome profile. Each profile only knows about one account, so Google can't mix them up.
