If you have a domain hosted on Rocketspark and want to use it for professional emails with Microsoft 365, you will need to "authenticate" or verify that you own the domain. This tells the internet that Microsoft has permission to handle your emails.
This guide will go over how to verify that you own the domain name to use for your Microsoft emails.
In this guide:
Step 1: Start the Setup in Microsoft 365
Step 2: Add the Verification Record in Rocketspark
Step 3: Connect Microsoft Services (MX & SPF)
Step 1: Start the Setup in Microsoft 365
Log in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre.
Go to Settings > Domains > Add domain.
Enter your domain name (e.g., exampledomain.co.nz) and click Use this domain.
On the Verify you own this domain page, select Add a TXT record to the domain's DNS records.
-
Microsoft will show you a TXT Value (e.g.,
MS=msXXXXXXXX). Copy this value.
Step 2: Add the Verification code in Rocketspark
Log in to your Rocketspark Dashboard.
Go to Domain Names in the left-hand menu.
Click on your domain name or the pencil icon next to it.
-
Click Add New Record and enter the following:
Type: TXT
Name:
@-
Value: Paste the
MS=msXXXXXXXXcode from Microsoft. If you're unsure how to edit DNS records, please follow this guide:

-
Click Save.
Step 3: Connect Microsoft Services (MX & SPF)
Once verified, Microsoft will provide a list of DNS records to activate your email. You will need to add these to your Rocketspark DNS settings:
A. To Receive Emails (MX Record)
Type: MX
Name:
@Points to:
yourdomain-com.mail.protection.outlook.com(Copy the exact value from Microsoft).Priority:
0Note: If there are any existing MX records in your Rocketspark list, delete them so only the Microsoft one remains.
B. To Prevent Spam (SPF Record)
Type: TXT
Name:
@-
Value:
v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -allNote: If you already have an SPF record, edit it to include Microsoft's value rather than adding a second record.
C. For Outlook Features (CNAME Records)
Microsoft usually requires an Autodiscover record:
Type: CNAME
Name:
autodiscover-
Value:
autodiscover.outlook.com
Step 4: Finalise in Microsoft 365
Return to Microsoft 365 Admin.
Click Verify or Continue.
Microsoft will scan your Rocketspark settings. Once it sees the new records, you’ll see a "Setup Complete" message.
Please note: DNS changes usually take 15–30 minutes to update, but in rare cases, they can take up to 24 hours. If Microsoft doesn't see the records immediately, you may need to check back later on.
