Yes, you can keep your existing email accounts (that are connected to your domain name) where they are currently hosted when you move your website over to Rocketspark and, in many cases, we actually recommend it. If, however, you would like to bring (“migrate”) these email accounts over to us, then you can do so.
Email accounts are often tied to where your domain name’s DNS settings are managed. If you move your domain name away from your current provider, email services hosted there may stop working unless DNS records are updated.
Please note that if you have your email with the provider such as Go Daddy or Crazy Domains, please talk to their Support team if you are thinking about moving your domain name as well.
Should I move my email accounts or keep them where they are?
This decision is entirely up to you. One factor to consider is whether you plan to move your domain name to Rocketspark and away from your current provider. If moving the domain would cause your email service to stop working, we would recommend moving your email hosting to Rocketspark as well. You can check this by reaching out to the current provider.
If you're able to move the domain name and keep your existing email hosting, you could trial that setup first. If it doesn't work well for you, we can assist with migrating your existing emails to Rocketspark at a later stage.
There is a one-off fee for our support team to migrate your emails to Google Workspace (which Rocketspark uses for email hosting). You can contact our support team for a quote on this service. There is also an ongoing subscription cost for email hosting through Rocketspark. You can view our pricing here: https://www.rocketspark.com/nz/business-email/
If you’d like a quote for migrating your emails to Rocketspark, please get in touch with us.
Important note:
If your emails are currently hosted with Microsoft Office 365, we highly recommend keeping them there. Rocketspark uses Google Workspace for email services, which is similar in many ways but may not support all features you use with Office 365. Migrating from Office 365 can be complex, particularly if you're using other Microsoft services (e.g. OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint). While Rocketspark’s Support team can assist with migrating email content, we can't migrate those other services.
I want to bring my email accounts over to Rocketspark. How?
If you would like the Rocketspark support team to help you out, you can get in contact with them: How to get in contact with the Rocketspark Support team? There is a cost for the support team to migrate over your emails, as it does take time to do.
Otherwise, you can set this up yourself. You will need to get the email set up, but do not activate them, and then follow this Google Guide here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/9476255?hl=en
Tip: If you're planning to move both your domain and emails, it's best to coordinate the timing. Don't cancel your current email service until you're sure everything is working on the new one.
What Happens to Existing Email Content?
During migration, most email content—including inboxes, folders, and sent items—can be transferred. However, some elements like calendars and contacts may not come over automatically.
What’s the difference between domain hosting and email hosting?
Your domain name is like your website’s address (e.g., yourcompany.co.nz). Your email hosting is where your emails (e.g., info@yourcompany.co.nz) are stored and managed. These can be with different providers, but they are connected via DNS settings.
What if My Emails Are Already with Google Workspace?
You can move your current Google Workspace account into our Reseller. This means that Rocketspark can help you out with any questions you have. You can check out our guide here: How to transfer your Google Workspace email to the Rocketspark reseller
