Many companies use multiple domain names rather than a single domain name to point to their website. This can help broaden your search market as well as identify with a slightly different name given to a specific company.
A great example of this would be Apple. If you were to type the URL apple.co.uk into your search bar you will notice that Apple redirects them to your apple.com site.
So what's the catch?
If you are using multiple domain names on a single website, one of them will need to be set as the primary. All the other domain names will point towards this primary one and redirect their traffic towards it.
You can't have more than one primary address associated with a single website. Additional domains are secondary domains pointing to the same site.
How to choose your primary domain?
In your Rocketspark dashboard go to the Domain Names menu and click the pencil beside the domain name you want to have as your primary domain. From here, click Domain Options -> Make Primary Domain. If you don't yet have the secondary domain in your Domain Names menu see the options below.
How to add a secondary domain?
Follow the steps in your website dashboard to Register or Transfer a domain to get a pricing quote. If you have a self-managed domain that is already pointing at your Rocketspark site please see this guide to transfer a self-managed domain to Rocketspark.
If your website is already with Rocketspark and you wish to self-manage an additional domain
If you have already upgraded your website and you wish to add a secondary domain that you already own you can host your own secondary domain name and point it toward your site. Following our Domain transfer guide and select Don't Transfer as the first step to adding a self-managed secondary domain to your website.
The secondary domain will be added to your Domain Names menu. Click the pencil icon beside your domain name to see the DNS settings you need to point your domain to Rocketspark and see the step above about how to set your primary domain.
