You can quickly copy any content block on your page and place it exactly where you want it, all with a simple keyboard shortcut and drag.
Every content block on your page has a small toolbar that appears when you hover over it. One of the icons in this toolbar is the move icon (a four-way arrow), which you can use to drag a block to a new position on the page.
To copy a block instead of moving it, all you need to do is hold down the Option key (on Mac) or the Alt key (on Windows) while you drag. The move icon will change to a copy icon to let you know you’re in copy mode. Then just click and drag the block to wherever you’d like the copy to go.
If you’ve used tools like Figma or Adobe, this will feel very familiar. It’s the same Option/Alt + drag shortcut you already know and love.
Step by step
- Hover over the block you want to copy. A small toolbar will appear on the block with a few icons. You’ll see the move icon (the four-way arrow) in the toolbar.
- Hold down the Option key (Mac) or Alt key (Windows). While holding the key, you’ll notice the move icon in the toolbar changes to a copy icon (a clipboard with a small +). This tells you that dragging will now create a copy of the block rather than moving the original.
- Click and drag the block to where you want the copy. While still holding the Option/Alt key, click on the block and drag it up or down the page. A green line will appear to show you where the copied block will be placed.
- Release the mouse to drop the copy. Let go of the mouse button and the duplicated block will appear in its new position. The original block stays exactly where it was. You can now edit the copy independently.
Good to know
- Keep holding the key while you drag. Make sure you keep the Option/Alt key held down for the entire drag. If you let go of the key before you drop the block, it will move the original instead of copying it.
- Copies are fully independent. Once you’ve made a copy, it’s its own block. Any changes you make to the copy won’t affect the original, and vice versa.
- Works on the same page. You can drag the copy to any position on the current page. If you need to copy a block to a different page, you can copy the full stack instead: How to copy a stack
- Great for repeating layouts. If you’ve set up a block just the way you like it and want to reuse that same layout further down the page, this is the fastest way to do it. Copy the block, drop it where you need it, then update the content.
