Thinking of offering a discount to entice new subscription sign-ups? Great idea! Here’s how you can set this up in your Rocketspark store — and what you’ll need to keep in mind.
How to set it up
-
Log into your store’s dashboard and go to Shop Settings → Coupons & Promos.
-
Click Add a coupon. (If you’re not sure how, here’s our guide: How to set up coupon codes
-
In the coupon setup, make sure you set “Single-use per customer” — that ensures each new customer can only use the coupon once, ideal for new subscription sign-ups.
4. Also ensure the coupon is allowed for subscription orders: set to be available on subscriptions. You will then be able to choose to allow this coupon with subscriptions in the 'Allow coupon on subscriptions' dropdown menu.
5. Choose the value of the discount (percentage or fixed amount) and set start/end dates if desired.
6. Once live, customers add a subscription-eligible product to cart, enter the code at checkout, and enjoy the discount for their first week.
Important note
Because we use Stripe as the payment gateway for subscription orders, there is a minimum order value of US $0.50 for subscriptions. That means you can’t offer a 100% free first week.
A good workaround: offer a big discount (e.g., 50% off) instead of fully free.
Why this matters
-
Giving a strong first-week discount helps boost sign-ups and gets people into your subscription flow.
-
Using “single-use per customer” stops discounts from being reused by the same person, keeping things fair.
-
Making sure the coupon works on subscriptions means new subscribers aren’t blocked by settings meant for one-off orders.
-
And being aware of the minimum fee keeps you from launching a campaign that can’t be processed.
