When a product's stock reaches zero, Rocketspark follows the 'If stock reaches zero' setting (also called the Stock Zero setting) on that product. It decides whether the product stays on sale, shows as sold out, or is hidden from your online shop. This guide explains each option and how to change it.
Choose what happens at zero stock
This setting only works if you're tracking stock for the product. If the Stock field is empty, the product won't ever "reach zero", so nothing changes.
Step 1: Open the product: Log in to your Dashboard and click Products in the left-hand menu. Click the pencil icon next to the product you'd like to edit.
Step 2: Find the stock settings: Scroll down to the Price, Inventory and Variants area. [VERIFY UI: confirm the If stock reaches zero field sits in this area and the exact label shown.]
Step 3: Pick an option and save: Choose an option from the If stock reaches zero dropdown, then click Save Changes.
The three options explained:
- Continue selling: The product stays on your website and customers can keep buying it, even at zero stock. Best for products you make to order or can restock quickly.
- Mark as sold out: The product stays visible in your shop with a sold out label, but customers can't buy it. Best for limited items where you'd still like people to see what you offer, or items coming back soon. [VERIFY STEP: confirm this sets the Product Status to Out of stock, or to Sold.]
- Hide product: The product is removed from your shop once it sells out. Best for one-off items or products you won't be restocking.
When you restock
If you've chosen 'Mark as sold out' or 'Hide product', adding stock back can switch the product's status back to For Sale. If a product doesn't reappear after restocking, check its Product Status at the top of the product page and set it to For Sale.
Tips and things to watch out for
- The setting is per product, so you'll need to set it on each one.
- If your products have variants (such as sizes or colours), stock is tracked on each SKU line.
- With Mark as sold out or Hide product, customers can't add more to their basket than you have in stock.
- If you use Lightspeed, your stock levels are managed in Lightspeed rather than Rocketspark.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my product disappear from my shop?
It has most likely sold out and is set to Hide product. Add stock, then check the Product Status is set to For Sale.
How do I stop people buying something that's out of stock?
Enter a number in the Stock field, then set If stock reaches zero to Mark as sold out or Hide product.
Can I keep selling a product with zero stock?
Yes. Choose Continue selling. This works well for made-to-order products or backorders.
Can two customers buy the last item at the same time?
Rocketspark reserves stock for 10 minutes while a customer pays, which greatly reduces overselling. See "How can I avoid overselling?" for details.
I restocked but it still says sold out. What do I do?
Open the product and change the Product Status at the top of the page to For Sale, then save.
