What are Canonical Tags?
Canonical tags are a type of HTML tag used on web pages to help search engines understand which version of a page's content is the main or preferred version.
Can I add Canonical Tags to my Rocketspark website?
The short answer is no, you cannot add Canonical tags to your Rocketspark website.
We do not have the functionality to add the HTML tag to specific pages, only the option to add it to all pages.
If Google Search console is asking you to add in a canonical tag, it is usually because Google cannot tell which website page is the correct one. Here are some alternatives to do instead of a canonical tag:
- Review for Duplicate Content: Ensure that the pages for which you are adding canonical tags have actual duplicate or very similar content.
- Consistent URLs: Use absolute URLs in your canonical tags to avoid ambiguity.
- Page Redirects: Use 301 redirects to guide search engines to the canonical page if duplicate content arises from different URLs.
