This help guide will walk you through the steps of adding content to your website and how to get started.
Adding text and images to your Rocketspark website is incredibly easy. It doesn’t matter whether you’re building your website for the very first time or simply want to edit your existing website you use the same tool for both: our editor.
Using the Rocketspark editor is so intuitive that most people learn by simply playing around with it, but, if you’d like some instructions, you’ve come to the right place.
Logging into your Rocketspark Dashboard
To access our page editor, you need to first log into your Rocketspark Dashboard. This is like the control centre for your website. Here’s how:
- Type in your website URL (i.e., website address) into your browser (e.g.: www.mybusiness.com; or if you’re still on your 30-day trial, your temporary website address will look something like this: http://mybusiness.rocketspark.com).
- If your site is offline you’ll now be taken to a login page. Fill in your login details and click Login. If your site is already online scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Dashboard in the footer and log in.
- Once you are in the Dashboard, click the Editor button at the top of the page.
You’re now in the Rocketspark editor.
Rocketspark pages are constructed using blocks and stacks. What are they?
Blocks are the individual units that make up your webpage. Think of them as being like toy blocks—the pieces you’ll use to build. We have a number of different types of blocks: text, images, maps, videos, downloadable files, contact forms, blog posts, and products from your store.
Stacks are groups of blocks. You can have multiple stacks on a page. It’s a way to design the layout of your web page since each stack has its own column arrangement. For example, your introduction at the top of your page might be a stack with just a single column. Your next stack down the page might have four columns. Or it might be something different altogether, like an Instagram feed or a carousel slider.
Want to know more? The video below shows exactly how blocks and stacks work.
Once you’ve mastered blocks and stacks, you’ve got the basics required to build your website. (If you’re starting with the homepage, check out our instructions for the homepage feature area)
Adding a stack
The first thing you’ll do on most pages is add a stack. Often when you add a stack for the first time on a page, you’ll see a prompt like this:
But most of the time you will add a stack simply by hovering over an existing stack, at which time an ADD STACK or + will appear on the right-hand side.
Just click on it and a pane of options will slide out from the edge of the window. To save time you can choose to add a Preset Stack from a library of already-designed stacks, conveniently categorised by use.
You might want to add a Blank Stack. Most of these stacks are column layouts but there are special stacks for Instagram, horizontal lines, image sliders, and galleries.
Adding a block
If you've added a Blank stack, you’ll see one or more prompts like this:
Just click on it and an Add a block box will pop up. Now it’s time to select the type of block that you want to add. As you enable more features on your site—the blog, social media tools, the shop, etc.—more block options will become available to you. You can add multiple blocks into a single stack. The blocks you will probably use most are text and picture blocks.
We have individual guides for the following blocks:
Editing, moving, and deleting blocks and stacks
Once created, your blocks and stacks are not fixed in stone. You can edit, move and delete them too.
Hover your cursor over a block/stack. You’ll see three icons appear: a pencil, arrows, and a rubbish bin. These are tools that allow you to edit (pencil), move (arrows), or delete (rubbish bin). The icons for a block will appear on top of the block; the icons for the stack will appear off to the right side of the stack.Editing: Clicking the pencil allows you to edit the block (you must first add a block before you can edit it!). The type of box/pane that appears will vary depending on the type of block it is. For instance, clicking the pencil on a text block will bring a text editor, whereas clicking it on a picture block will bring up the picture editing pane.
Moving: Clicking the arrows allows you to move the block/stack. Simply click and drag to the preferred position on the page. You can move blocks up/down and left/right, while stacks can be only moved up/down (that’s why the arrow icon for the blocks and stacks are slightly different). This means you can quickly and easily rearrange elements on your page.
Deleting: Clicking on the rubbish bin allows you to delete the stack. But don’t worry—it’ll ask you for confirmation before it is removed, so you won’t delete it accidentally. Click Yes to delete; Cancel to leave as is.
Changing Stack Layout: You can change the layout of your stacks and add more columns by clicking the Column button on the right-hand side of your screen as pictured below.
Note: You cannot change your layout to have fewer columns, if you want to do this you will need to create a new stack with fewer columns and drag your content to this stack. Also please note that once you have made the stack and selected how many blocks you want in that stack you are unable to delete the blank blocks or change to a smaller amount of blocks.
At the top of each page, there is a feature area — that snazzy, image-oriented part of the page designed to immediately grab users’ attention. Hover your mouse over the feature area and click the edit pencil to start editing the feature area.
See our guide for editing the feature area.
Once you know how blocks and stacks work, you know everything you need to know to build your website. It couldn’t any easier—so what are you waiting for?
