To set up a page that isn't on your main website's menu but is still online and accessible is easy with Rocketspark. You can manage this through the Manage Pages section in your Dashboard
- Go to Dashboard -> Manage Pages
- Simply Drag the Page below the bar which says:
"PAGES ABOVE THIS LINE APPEAR IN THE MENU"
- To move a page, just click and drag the black box with the up-down arrow on it.
- In the screenshot above you can see the Adwords Landing Page which is online and can be linked to but isn't visible in my main navigation. You can still link to this page using Picture Links and Button Links when adding these blocks to your site content.
Another option is to hide the first page from the menu. This option can be used if you would like to hide your first page from your menu while still keeping it as your homepage. This can be helpful for one-page websites to optimise space.
This can be done by following these steps:
- Go to Dashboard -> Manage Pages
- Scroll down and on the right-hand side of the page you will see this message:
- Tick the box where it says ‘Hide first page from menu’ and you are good to go; your first page will no longer appear in the menu.
You can still get back to the home page by clicking on the logo. As pictured below; if you are on another page and the home button is hidden, you can get back to the home page by clicking on the logo at the top
Frequently asked questions
Will a hidden page still show up in Google search results?
Yes. Hiding a page from your menu only affects your site navigation, not whether search engines can find it. If you want a page kept out of search results too, you'll need to adjust its SEO settings separately.
Can visitors still reach a page that's hidden from the menu?
Yes, as long as the page is online. They just need a direct link, since it won't appear as a menu item. You can share the link directly, or add a picture or button link to it from another page.
What's the difference between hiding a page from the menu and setting it to offline?
Hiding from the menu keeps the page live and reachable by direct link. Setting a page to offline takes it down completely, so no one can view it, linked or not.
If I hide my homepage from the menu, can visitors still find it?
Yes. Clicking your logo from anywhere on the site takes visitors back to whichever page is listed first in Manage Pages, which is usually the homepage.
Can I hide more than one page from the menu at a time?
Yes. You can drag as many pages as you like below the menu line in Manage Pages. There's no limit to how many can sit below it.
Does hiding a page from the menu change its web address?
No. The page keeps the same URL whether it's above or below the menu line. This is what makes it handy for things like Adwords landing pages, since your ad links keep working even though the page isn't in your navigation.
Can I move a page back into the menu later?
Yes. Go to Manage Pages and drag the page back up above the "PAGES ABOVE THIS LINE APPEAR IN THE MENU" divider. It'll reappear in your navigation straight away.
Does removing a page from the menu hurt its SEO or Google ranking?
No, not directly. The page is still indexed and ranked on its own content, regardless of whether it sits in your menu. Just keep in mind that if no other page links to it, it may be harder for visitors (and search engines) to discover it, so it's worth linking to it from somewhere, like a picture or button link.
Do I need to keep my homepage as the first page in Manage Pages for the "hide first page" option to work?
Yes. The "Hide first page from menu" setting always applies to whichever page is listed first in Manage Pages, and that page is also where your logo links to. If you reorder your pages, double-check the right one is still sitting at the top.
Where does clicking the logo take visitors?
Clicking the logo takes visitors to whichever page is showing first in your Manage Pages section. Usually, this is your homepage.
