In order to transfer your domain name to Rocketspark, usually we will need a transfer code to complete the transfer. This is a code that can be sent to the admin contact and when given to a new registrar this allows the domain to be transferred to their control. Its a bit like a pin code to allow the transfer to happen.
This code has a range of names, but is usually called a Auth Code, Auth Key, EPP Key or UDAI code.
.UK Domains
UK domain names don't require a transfer code, they operate off a IPS tag. Please follow our guide for setting your IPS tag for transfer to Rocketspark.
How to get your transfer code
- Login to your current domain registrar’s login area. If you're unsure who your registrar is, follow this guide to find out.
- Look for a place to request your transfer code and request this. It can be labelled as many different things, depending on the domain provider. Here are a few common names: Auth Key, Authorization Code, EPP Key, UDAI Code, Transfer Code or Transfer Key
- The code is usually emailed to the domain admin email, but is sometimes available on-screen once logged in. You may need to change the admin contact email to an email address you have access to.
- If you can’t find a place to request this automatically, try contacting the domain registrar and request it to be sent to you. They can then send it to the domain contact email. Or alternatively, look for your registrar's Support/Help area for specific instructions.
Special Instructions for requesting .NZ UDAI Code from Godaddy
When requesting a UDAI code to transfer away from Godaddy they often will not give you a correct code straight away as their system generates this in the wrong format. UDAI codes must be 8 characters long. In these situations, you must email Godaddy and explain that you need a valid UDAI code.
We recommend that you call Godaddy and ask for a UDAI for your domain. Explain to them that it must be an 8 digit code and may guide them on this subject as they are used to 16 digit codes. It's worth mentioning to the agent that they have to get their international team to issue the code for you.
You can always check you have a valid UDAI code at the NZ Domain Name Commission website here https://www.dnc.org.nz/udai
As it can take time for a domain to transfer you may consider pointing your domain to Rocketspark first and then transfer the domain to us.
