A screenshot is essentially a ‘photo’ of what you currently see on your computer, smartphone or iphone screen. From time to time, the Rocketspark support team may ask to see exactly what you are seeing on your screen, taking a screenshot will help us to visualize your query or issue.
Windows:
Press the Print Screen button located near the top right of your keyboard (it may be abbreviated to something similar to 'prt' or 'prt sc'), doing this will copy an image of your entire computer screen.- You then need to change it into an image file. To do this you can then open a basic picture editing tool (Microsoft Paint is good) and paste the image in by pressing the 'ctrl + V' keys simultaneously.
- Then while in paint, click file and save the picture to anywhere you want, as long as you know how to find it later. Your screenshot is now ready to be uploaded or emailed as an attachment.
If you want to capture only one window on your computer rather than the entire screen, you can open it up and then press the alt + Print Screen keys simultaneously, this will copy an image of the window you had last opened as opposed to everything else on the screen.
If you want to capture only a small portion of your screen you can go to the Start menu and search for “Snipping tool”. With the snipping tool you can draw a box around whatever section of the screen you want and then immediately save it as an image, hence using the snipping tool will allow you to skip step 2.
Mac:
- Press the command, shift and 3 keys all simultaneously, doing this will copy an image of your entire computer screen, and automatically save it as an image file somewhere on your desktop, Your screenshot is now ready to be uploaded or emailed as an attachment.
- Alternatively you can press the command, shift and 4 keys all simultaneously, doing this will allow you to draw a box around a portion of the screen that you want to capture, then save it as an image file on your desktop. Your screenshot is now ready to be uploaded or emailed as an attachment.
A simplified way to do this with no shortcuts is to go the “preview” app and then at the very top left of your screen, click file and take screenshot, then you can choose whether you want to capture the entire screen, just one window or a small section.
IOS (iPhones):
- Press the sleep button and the home button simultaneously, this will save an image of the entire screen to your photos.
- You can then access it in your photos and share, or send the screenshot as an attachment.
Android (Smartphones):
- Hold down the lower volume button and the sleep button simultaneously for about 2 seconds. Your screen should flash white and then save an image of the entire screen to a folder titles “screenshots” in your gallery or photos.
- You can then access it in the gallery or photos and share, or send the screenshot as an attachment.
